AHS has been in debt to Alameda County for nearly two decades and as of 2018 still owed over $64 million. This means AHS must ask the county for loans to cover shortfalls.Īnd ask it has. AHS is ineligible to receive money from the county’s general fund, and because its buildings and lands are still owned by the county, it does not have the collateral needed to secure private bank loans. Things have not worked out that way: making AHS an independent entity has led to massive dysfunction. It is run by a board of trustees appointed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.Īccording to the 1996 California State Assembly bill which removed AHS from county control, making the health system independent was supposed to “improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of the community health services provided at the medical center.” As of 1998, AHS is formally independent of the county. This has led to dangerous conditions for workers and patients alike. Highland and the other county hospitals have experienced years of extreme underfunding and mismanagement. These hospitals are not-for-profit and publicly funded, and they primarily service working-class patients of color. These are everyday, pre-pandemic conditions at Highland Hospital, one of Alameda County’s public hospitals. You might think that these conditions are the predictable result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been straining hospital capacity all over the world. The hospital also suffers from a lack of ventilators, hand sanitizer, gowns, booties, and HEPA filters, and severe understaffing. Workers have to bring soap from home because the hospital is short on that, too. There aren’t enough face masks, either, so in many departments workers are instructed to use a single face mask per 12 hour shift. Highland Hospital in Oakland does not have enough virus-killing disinfecting wipes to go around, so management has asked housekeepers to wipe down beds with reusable cloth washcloths. So depending on your computer, that could be extremely beneficial or do absolutely nothing. So reducing priority of other processes is a better idea. Setting high priority on a game process is apparently a bad idea (Ask Kaldaien who does a lot of optimizing for games with his software) since it apparently changes internal thread prioritizations also. In some cases I suppose it works automatically reducing priority of non critical processes to ensure that your main process like a game gets all the resources it needs. It’s this level of creativity that makes punishing new enemies like skeletons and werewolves with my whip sword or a cute but ferocious magical cat even more fun. There are also Castlevania classics like the holy water and the cross, but my favorite of the new additions has to be Death’s scythe, a double-sided weapon that converts its victims into my own spectral army who in turn dive at enemies and explode while I simply smile and watch. That could be pairing the flint with the whip to overwhelm enemies up close and personal, or the throwing ax with the lightning bolt to focus on attacking from afar. That’s absolutely for the best because you’re able to mix and match between those and 14 vampire hunter-flavored weapons to find creative new builds. As you storm a spectacular castle floating in a blood-red sea, the original Dead Cells’ weapons, blueprints, and outfits you’ve found from any path can be used across the board here. Discovering all the new surprises continues to keep it more than fresh even after the 20 hours I’ve sunk in so far. The brilliant gameplay formula of quick sword swiping action, ground pounds, and bashing through doors against a colorful pool of monsters hasn’t fundamentally changed, but Return to Castlevania introduces more weapons, enemies, bosses, and outfits than any paid expansion before it. There are layers of strategy and tactics buried not only in the immediate choices you make, but in the grander metagame each run builds toward. It goads you to push the limits of your ability, and mercilessly crushes you when you get too comfortable. Each easily digestible run through its beautifully detailed and shifting levels instills a feeling of discovery and familiarity. It almost felt like a new, more streamlined version of a classic Castlevania adventure, all while still staying true to the Dead Cells name.ĭead Cells is rewarding in its flexibility in a way few games are. By the end of its story I’d not only taken on the Count in an epic final battle, I’d also faced Medusa and even Death itself in fierce showdowns. While the story traditionally hasn’t been the reason you’d play Dead Cells in the first place, Return to Castlevania does an amusing job setting up why you’re satisfyingly smashing your way toward Dracula’s notorious throne room this time rather than simply trying to escape your island prison like in runs of yore. Return to Castlevania is a masterful mashup that brings together the best parts of both games, with the same challenging and engaging Dead Cells action that might leave you in bloody tears of frustration or joy by the end. It puts the castle itself center stage and makes it feel alive, and that reverence really helps sell the crossover fantasy. Its more traditional story structure is less mysterious than the connect-the-dots style we’ve seen in the past, and it's immediately clear how much work has gone into bringing Castlevania's iconic characters, weapons, music, and locations into Dead Cells’ world. This sizable expansion expertly remixes the base game and Konami’s classic action-platformer series – one of Dead Cells’ biggest inspirations – into something that feels wonderfully and wholeheartedly its own. That’s been true across five years of superb content updates, and it’s even more true with the arrival of its latest paid DLC, Return to Castlevania. Snagit is a no-fuss screen recording tool. Hence, it’s easy to share project files between the two. Snagit is the cross-platform software, which means it can work on both Mac and Windows. This is, again, a paid Bandicam for Mac option. RecMaster is one of the most easy-to-use and cost-effective screen recorders. Download Bandicam - The Bandicam program makes it possible to record a certain area on a PC screen, or on a program that uses the DirectX/OpenGL graphic technologies. Another Bandicam for Mac option is Snagit. While recording, you can add arrows, squares, and numbers to highlight key information. It can capture your whole screen, a region, a window, or a scrolling screen and save your video as an MP4 or GIF file, and it can also record a camera with or without your screen. I wouldn't suggest paying for the full version unless you've tried out the free version first and like it. RecMaster: One of the Best Alternatives for Bandicam. Snagit is another powerful alternative to Bandicam for Mac. Recommended if you don't mind the limitations of the free version, (watermark + 10 minute limit). While it doesn't have the same kind of customization as a software such as OBS, it certainly does the job. I believe it is still a one time payment, and it is worth it if you're looking for an easy to use recording software. The full paid version contains enough features to record your screen well, as well as webcam, HDMI devices and game capture cards. You also should be aware that if you do not pay for the full version, your videos will have a Bandicam watermark, and you will be limited to 10 minutes of recording time per recording. You will find this in every German Game cabinet, and EVERYONE has a story about playing this game for hours with their friends, Oma, Opa, mother, father, brother, sister, or classmates.
